 Granite is one of the hardest substances in the world, second only to the diamond. It's strength and durability is what makes it a favorite and popular choice as a countertop material. Granite is truly an amazing material that will make your kitchen look amazing. It is an investment that adds value and marketability to your home.

What is Granite? It is quite a journey from rock to countertop. Natural granite is an igneous rock, also known as “fire rock,” which is formed by slowly cooling pockets of magma trapped beneath the earth’s surface. Granite is a unique natural material with naturally occuring variations in color, tone, granularity and pattern.  Since it is a natural material from the earth, no two pieces are alike. Your granite countertops will be truly one of a kind.

Recommended Care: Clean granite surfaces with a neutral cleaner, such as mild liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Do not use vinegar, lemon juice, ammonia or other cleaners containing acids.  Products containing acids may etch the surface and reduce the sealer's properties. Do not use scouring powders or creams; these products contain abrasives. Cabinet Source recommends sealing your granite countertops once a year. When water does not bead up, the top needs to be resealed.  Do not place hot pans, or objects with sharp edges directly on your countertop.

Pros to Granite Countertops: Granite has a rich beauty that few other countertop materials can match. It is a natural product with timeless appeal. Another great attribute to granite is that minor scratches or dings in granite can be filled in with color-matching epoxy or resin.

Cons to Granite Countertops: For all their beauty and durability, granite counters do have a few weaknesses. The most concerning problems can occur when the countertops are not sealed correctly or the sealant wears off without being resealed. Granite is porous. This means that unsealed or poorly sealed countertops can absorb wine, juice or oil, producing a stain that may be impossible to remove. A poorly sealed countertop can also harbor bacteria in its pores. To avoid these issues, and to keep your granite countertops beautiful for years to come they will need to be sealed once a year. Another thing to consider...while granite countertops are very durable, a heavy object dropped on a corner might crack or chip the granite. This isn't common but can happen under the right circumstances.Granite countertops can be more costly than some other countertop options, but does add lasting value and marketability to your home.

Installation:After your cabinets are installed (or support structure), the countertop area will be templated. The fabrication process will take 1-2 weeks from the time the area is templated.When the fabrication process is complete, your granite countertops will be installed by professional granite installers.
